| Breaking News | | Tuesday, June 20th, 1961: Humphrey Sensational, 5-5 It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Jessie Humphrey -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Concert Park and paced the Gauchos to a 6-3 win over the Hollywood Stars.
After his dynamite batting performance the El Monte third baseman told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book.
J. Humphrey singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This season Humphrey has 2 home runs and a .302 batting average. | | Friday, June 16th, 1961: Brown Hurls Shutout Alvin Brown came out firing strikes and when the game ended, the Aviators hurler had struck out 3 in leading Oxnard over the El Monte Gauchos 3-0. Brown allowed just 5 hits in the ballgame.
| | Friday, May 5th, 1961: Lee Shuts out Gauchos Nick Lee of the Santa Monica Barons was really in the zone as he mowed down the El Monte hitters 6-0 in a sterling mound performance.
"I'm feeling good overall," he said.
"I'm executing my pitches, I'm able to hit my spots and I'm getting outs in key situations."
Lee shut down the El Monte Gauchos, blanking them on 5 hits while registering 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.
His record this year is 1-2 in 6 starts and Lee has a 2.47 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 1B Robert Frost | strained anterior cruciate ligament | 5 days | Not on DL | | P Dave Townsend | bone chips (elbow) | 2 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 30-46, .395 PCT | | Position in Division | 8th, 20.5 GB | | Record at home | 18-24, .429 PCT | | Record on the road | 12-22, .353 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-2, .778 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 12-11, .522 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 3-6, .333 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 27-40, .403 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 6-16, .273 PCT | | Record in May | 13-13, .500 PCT | | Record in June | 11-17, .393 PCT |
