Thursday, June 8th, 1961: Pérez on a Tear, Hits for Cycle
Harlingen second baseman Luis Pérez had a stellar day today at Cherry St. Park. His 4-hit day included a cycle and 3 RBI and was instrumental in the Herons 13-5 victory over the Freeport.

L. Pérez doubled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off T. Clark in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

Pérez is currently batting .301 with 2 home runs and 14 RBIs.
Tuesday, June 6th, 1961: Herons Davis Tames Freeport
In an impressive outing, Zack Davis whitewashed the Freeport Hurricanes 4-0.

"I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Davis, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion.

"It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took."

The Harlingen hurler held Freeport scoreless, allowed 2 hits, chalked up 3 strikeouts and yielded 3 walks.

In 13 starts this season Davis has notched a 6-5 record and a 3.22 ERA.
Saturday, May 20th, 1961: Davis Mystifies Freeport
Harlingen starter Zack Davis really did a number on the Hurricanes today, shutting them out 8-0 on 5 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 2 walks and had 3 strikeouts.

In his postgame comments, the Freeport manager said, "We didn't have good at-bats. I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting... seeing as our team has a bunch of pretty good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Zack... he did an outstanding job today."

Davis in 1961 has fashioned a 5-2 mark, 3.01 ERA and thrown 71.2 innings in 9 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .248 against him.
