José Rodríguez went on a week-long hitting spree against Rio Grande League pitchers and captured the Player of the Week honors.
The Brownsville catcher battered the opposition for 10 hits, 1 home run, 3 RBI and scored 5 runs. He hit .417 and posted a .440 on-base percentage.
For the season, Rodríguez is hitting at a .292 clip with 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and has scored 16 runs. He has 42 hits, 10 walks and a .338 on-base percentage. |

It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. It may only come around once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but Ángel Torres got one today. He scattered hits all over Ringgold Park to pace Brownsville to a 12-4 victory over Harlingen.
The Harlingen skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Torres hit several that he is not supposed to hit."
Á. Torres singled in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and walked in the 9th.
For 1960 Torres is batting .266 with no home runs, 18 RBIs and 33 runs scored. |
