When the Ideals skipper wrote St-Germain on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in June he took command and usually got the win.
He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 2.08 ERA in 7 starts. The gifted Ideals star pitched 47.2 innings, fanned 36 and held opposing teams to a .220 average.
For his excellent mound work St-Germain was named the RGL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.
In 15 starts this year St-Germain has crafted a 9-2 record and a 2.83 ERA. |
 | Monday, June 19th, 1961: Hot Bat Wins RGL Player of the Week Honors
His face might be sun-baked after all the years he's invested in this game, but 39-year-old Ben Schultz of the Alice Ideals is still playing a kid's game -- and getting paid for it. The veteran first baseman had a tremendous week and was named the Rio Grande League Player of the Week.
Schultz drilled 13 hits in 25 at-bats and no home runs on his way to posting a .520 average. He also knocked in 7 runs and scored 6 times.
This season Schultz is batting .383 with 44 hits and no home runs. He has scored 15 times and has 22 runs batted in. |
| Friday, May 26th, 1961: St-Germain Blitzes Corpus Christi
Steven St-Germain of the Alice Ideals really did a job on the Giants today at Sain Park, shutting them out 4-0. St-Germain frustrated Corpus Christi hitters throughout the game, surrendering 3 hits. He struck out 2 and walked 4 in picking up the victory.
Checking out his stats for the season, St-Germain has notched 4 wins and 1 loss in 7 starts, 3.40 ERA and struck out 30 batters in 55.2 innings. |
