| Breaking News |  | Monday, June 26th, 1961: This Week's Star Player is St-Pierre
Matthieu St-Pierre of the St. Catherines Wildcats had an outstanding week and today was voted the Player of the Week by the Mackenzie League.
For the week the 27-year-old third baseman batted .682 (15-22) with no home runs and 7 RBIs.
In 69 games this season St-Pierre has compiled a .331 batting average with 85 hits and 4 home runs. He has also scored 41 times and knocked in 37 runs. |
 | Wednesday, June 14th, 1961: Jones Socks it to Wildcats, Cracks 5 Hits
Sean Jones was on fire today and sparked his club to a 18-5 victory over the Wildcats. The Hamilton second baseman was a tough out and went 5 for 6 against St. Catherines in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody... and some days they fall in."
S. Jones grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, doubled in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit a two-run triple in the 9th.
This year Jones is hitting .292 with no home runs. |

Santiago Martínez dominated Port Credit with a brilliant 3-hit shutout in the Wildcats 1-0 triumph at Alex Mackenzie Sports Park. The St. Catherines hurler fanned 4 and walked 1 in the game.
In 1961 Martínez has compiled a 6-7 record with a 4.44 ERA. |
