| Breaking News | | Monday, June 19th, 1961: Árias Selected Top Performer in MCL Vaughan's Eduardo Árias would not be denied the Macdonald League Player of the Week Award for this past week. His consistent stroke, which produced 15 hits in 33 at-bats and a .455 average, made him the clear favorite to win the honor.
"You just go out there and do what you have to do," said Árias, "When I'm up, I try to focus and block everything else out of my mind... and have a good at-bat. I'm up there to get a hit or advance a runner, not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment. I hope I can win this award every week."
He also tallied no home runs, 1 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
Árias is currently hitting at a .308 pace with 1 home run, 15 RBIs and has scored 43 times. | | Friday, June 9th, 1961: Ice Fishers Snap Ornelas's Streak at 22 Millers shortstop Félix Ornelas and his hot bat finally met their match today, ending his 22-game hitting string. The Ice Fishers held Ornelas hitless in 3 at-bats and also whipped Vaughan 4-3 at Major Mackenzie Stadium. After his last at bat, the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
So far this year Ornelas is batting .333 with 1 home run. | | Friday, June 9th, 1961: Park Gets 2-Game Suspension As a result of his tirade and temper tantrum during yesterday's Millers-Ice Fishers game at Major Mackenzie Stadium, Vaughan catcher Michael Park will get some time off. He was issued a 2-game suspension by the league commissioner. Park was suspended for verbally abusing and physically bumping the home plate umpire after being ejected for arguing over a third strike.
In this current campaign Park is hitting at a .315 clip with 1 home run and 21 RBIs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 46-32, .590 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 23-13, .639 PCT | | Record on the road | 23-19, .548 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-1, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 11-9, .550 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-8, .500 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 38-24, .613 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 14-9, .609 PCT | | Record in May | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in June | 16-11, .593 PCT |
