It is unknown at this time if there is any truth to the rumor that Pickering's George Nelson has asked his team for a trade. Insiders indicate the left fielder may not be happy with the club management. So far, the team's owners have refused to comment. |
 | Tuesday, May 30th, 1961: Dukes Fashions No-Hitter Against Lakers
The crowd sensed something special today at Dennis O' Connor Park. They seemed to get a little louder with passing of each out and each inning. It was obvious on the scoreboard that the pitcher had a no-hitter.
"It was like the playoffs or the Ontario Series," Paul Dukes told the press after the game."
It ended up a very special day for Dukes of the Ajax Cruisers -- he held the Pickering Lakers hitless and beat them 6-0, totaling 8 strikeouts with 3 walks and faced only 30 batters.
"Today was my day and I got lucky. I've had a couple of other shots that I've lost in the seventh inning and today I got through that and made it."
Lucky? Maybe so. But it usually takes more than luck to hold a team hitless.
