| Breaking News |  | Saturday, July 1st, 1961: Jiméniz Snags LL Top Hurler Trophy
Francisco Jiméniz will be bringing June's Lincoln League Pitcher of the Month trophy home to Washington. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping.
Jiméniz started 7 games, going 7-0 with 41 strikeouts in 54.2 innings as he compiled his 1.15 ERA.
Jiméniz has made 17 starts so far this year and put up a 11-1 won-lost record with a 3.12 ERA. In 115.1 innings he has allowed 95 hits, walked 60 and struck out 79. |
 | Thursday, June 15th, 1961: Mutuals French Hurt
Clement French of the Washington Mutuals was injured in today's game against Cleveland and had to be helped off the field by the trainers. The initial diagnosis is a pinched nerve and he is expected to be out for up to 4 weeks. It happened while French was colliding with a player at a base. "It hurt a lot, to be honest. I just hope it heals soon and I can get back on the field."
Hitting .217 to date, French has 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. He has played in 54 games. |
 | Saturday, June 10th, 1961: José Yturralde out with DTD Injury
The Washington Mutuals received some welcome news this morning. They will not need to place center fielder José Yturralde on the disabled list. During yesterday's game against the New York Empires, he was injured colliding with a player at a base. The injury, however, is not serious. The Washington star performer is listed as day-to-day with a concussion.
Yturralde on the season is hitting .318 with 6 home runs. His stats include 25 RBIs and 33 runs scored. |
