| Breaking News | | Friday, June 16th, 1961: Smashing Success: Soriano Wallops 3 HR José Soriano of the Los Angeles Quakes had a lot to celebrate in today's 7-5 win over the New York Empires. Three times he celebrated by pounding the ball out of Snyder Park.
He kiddingly told reporters after the game, "Hopefully, I can continue to close my eyes and swing as hard as I can. It worked well today."
The powerful Los Angeles right fielder tagged 3 hits in 4 at-bats, drove in 5 runs and scored 3 times in his three-home-run outburst.
Soriano added, "Seriously, I just try to swing early and often to give myself a chance. I let the pitcher supply all the power, I just try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."
"We talked about changing our strategy for the third one... and then he hit another homer," the New York manager said. "We just couldn't get him out."
J. Soriano flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off P. Miller in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off P. Miller in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off P. Miller in the 8th.
In the 1961 season Soriano has hit .281 with 13 home runs, 35 RBIs and scored 25 runs. | | Saturday, June 10th, 1961: Rumor: Unhappy Hanson Leaving Empires Rumors circulating around town say left fielder Gil Hanson is not happy at all playing in New York and that the Empires are actively shopping him around. | | Tuesday, May 30th, 1961: Campeau 5-5 for Morrills If the New York Empires know how best to pitch the Boston third baseman Carl Campeau they didn't tip their hand today. Instead Campeau showed he knew how best to hit them as he easily handled Empires pitching, going 5 for 5 and helping the Morrills to a 17-9 triumph at Suffolk Park.
He told BNN reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball."
The New York skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we may just do that... blindfold him... and then pitch him differently, just to be sure."
C. Campeau singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off K. Leach in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, walked in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
Campeau is batting .346 with 9 home runs and 26 RBIs this season. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 27-48, .360 PCT | | Position in Division | 7th, 23.0 GB | | Record at home | 16-23, .410 PCT | | Record on the road | 11-25, .306 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-3, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 5-10, .333 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-15, .348 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 19-33, .365 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 8-8, .500 PCT | | Record in May | 6-25, .194 PCT | | Record in June | 13-15, .464 PCT |
