Saturday, July 1st, 1961: St. Louis Left Fielder June's Top Rookie
It was an excellent month for Willis Harris. He really swung into action! The left fielder for the St. Louis Dredgers was named June's best newcomer in the Roosevelt League.

He captured the honor by hitting .330 with 38 hits, 4 home runs, 22 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

So far in 1961 Harris is hitting .307 with 4 home runs, 29 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has 70 hits and played in 67 games.
Saturday, July 1st, 1961: Roosevelt League Selects #1 Starter in June
The Pitcher of the Month Award has been announced and the Roosevelt League winner is St. Louis hurler, Phil Sparks. For his fine efforts in June he has been named the league's #1 pitcher.

During the month, Sparks excelled with a 1.97 ERA and 4 wins and 1 loss. In 45.2 innings he struck out 33 and gave up 35 hits and 13 walks.

This season in 18 starts Phil Sparks has a record of 7-5 with 84 strikeouts in 118.2 innings and a 3.11 ERA.
Monday, June 26th, 1961: St. Louis Second Baseman Out
Watching David Carrillo getting helped off the field today at Gateway Ballpark, fans of the St. Louis Dredgers feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the second baseman will miss 2 weeks with a damaged meniscus. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Carrillo suffered the injury running the bases in the game against the Golden Gators.

For the year Carrillo is batting .280 with 51 hits and 5 home runs. He has scored 27 times and driven in 21.
