Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory... your 5 minutes of fame... you get your name in the record book.
In the Dredgers 10-7 win over Boston, Andrés Penedo was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Gateway Ballpark.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Penedo delivered 5 hits in 6 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
A. Penedo flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 11th.
In the current season, Penedo has put up a .277 batting average with 13 hits, no home runs, 2 RBI and scored 6 runs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Gabriel Walton | torn bicep muscle | 6-7 months | 55 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 22-47, .319 PCT | | Position in Division | 8th, 21.5 GB | | Record at home | 10-24, .294 PCT | | Record on the road | 12-23, .343 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-5, .375 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 8-14, .364 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-19, .296 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 14-28, .333 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in May | 9-18, .333 PCT | | Record in June | 10-22, .313 PCT |
