Calvin Byrne left little doubt in the minds of Gulf League officials that he should be named June's Pitcher of the Month for his outstanding performance.
"I wasn't always confident at the start of a game," said Byrne. "Sometimes it's hard to get into the flow -- the calls aren't going your way or you're trying to spot your pitches too much. You just have to relax and use what you've been taught all your life -- get back to basics -- good mechanics, control, location, keep the ball down."
The 19-year-old tossed 60 innings of quality baseball -- going 7-0 with a 1.05 ERA and 47 strikeouts.
In 12 starts this season Byrne has rung up a 8-3 record and a 2.01 ERA. |

When the Ideals skipper wrote St-Germain on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in June he took command and usually got the win.
He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 2.08 ERA in 7 starts. The gifted Ideals star pitched 47.2 innings, fanned 36 and held opposing teams to a .220 average.
For his excellent mound work St-Germain was named the RGL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.
In 15 starts this year St-Germain has crafted a 9-2 record and a 2.83 ERA. |

Port Lavaca's center fielder Gang Han brought home the Gulf League batting trophy for June by hitting .367 for the month.
He also hit 2 home runs, drove in 11 and scored 16 runs.
Batting .356 to date, Han has 2 home runs and 11 RBIs. |
